Statewide of Iowa – Low-income people in rural Iowa can qualify for a low-cost home loan directly from the USDA.

We spoke with USDA State Director of Rural Development, Theresa Greenfield, about the USDA Direct Home Lending Programs. She breaks it down for us.

Greenfield tells us that the loans they offer cover the entire cost of the home. She says they can also help low-income people with home repairs.

Greenfield clarifies that just because the word “rural” is in the name doesn’t mean the house has to be out of the country. She says homes in communities of fewer than 20,000 people are eligible.
