After spending huge sums of money trying to close the gap between Liverpool and Manchester City during the summer transfer window, Manchester United face another season without being in contention for the Premier League title.
With Christmas fast approaching, United currently find themselves 17 points behind City at the top of the table, suggesting that even more investment will be needed in 2022 to try to ensure they are in the mix for stand on the top step of the podium in the English football pyramid next season.
As well as having to supplement the squad in places, United will also look to appoint a new permanent manager ahead of the start of the 2022/23 campaign, with seasoned German coach Ralf Rangnick for now only set to oversee things. until the end of this campaign.
However, as reported by Manchester Evening News PSG head coach Mauricio Pochettino is a figure close to heart at United, while Ajax boss Erik ten Hag is a name that continues to be on the lips of many fans.
But while it remains difficult to predict who will roam the home dugout at Old Trafford next season, United’s transfer goals are a little less elusive.
As reported by the Manchester Evening News Acting boss Rangnick is pushing to try and bring Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland to the club, although United are fully aware that they face stiff competition for his services. The striker is considered one of the best players in the world and his contract’s € 75million release clause is expected to become active in 2022.
Ralf Rangnick is now at Manchester United headquarters following the dismissal of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and form is picking up.

Additionally, United’s chances of signing Haaland could be further boosted due to Rangnick’s relationship with the forward’s father and the fact that he oversaw his transfer to Red Bull Salzburg from Molde in 2019.
Meanwhile, RB Leipzig midfielder Amadou Haidara is also of interest to United. the Manchester Evening News understands that signing a new starting midfielder in January is a priority for the Reds and Haidara is on their radar. Once again, the Malian international is another player Rangnick knows well, having trained him in Leipzig.
While United are much more likely to land Haidara in January than Haaland, with any move for the Norwegian likely to come next summer, the prospect of signing the pair could leave the new manager with a very promising platform. on which to rely for the next term.
Regardless of Rangnick’s replacement, it’s almost certain that David de Gea will retain his place in goal as the Spaniard has been in excellent form this season between the sticks.
In defense, from right to left, Aaron Wan-Bissaka will seek to regain his best form and make his way into the fold by replacing Diogo Dalot at the right-back. Harry Maguire and Raphael Varane will be the first central defensive choice, with Luke Shaw scattering Alex Telles at left-back.
It is in the middle of the field that the situation could become interesting. While Rangnick adopted a 4-2-2-2 formation in his first matches at the helm, it is of course impossible to predict what the vision and roster of his successor might be.
However, for the sake of argument, let’s say Solskjaer’s long-term successor sticks to a 4-2-2-2 system, Haidara would fit into one of the two defensive midfielder bunks, playing in his privileged No.6 position. Either Scott McTominay or Fred will get the go-ahead by his side, with the current form suggesting that Fred could be the more likely winner.
As for attacking midfielder two, two from Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Bruno Fernandes are likely to start, meaning either of them will be disappointed. Considering Rashford is seen more as a striker, he is unlikely to fall too deep meaning Sancho and Fernandes could continue to be deployed in the No.10 positions.
Up front, Haaland would join Cristiano Ronaldo in an exciting two front, where goals should be secured at a fast pace of knots.
If United line up with this starting lineup next season, it would leave Victor Lindelof, Donny van de Beek, Mason Greenwood and Rashford among the substitutes.
United’s best roster next season if they complete a double signing: De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Varane, Maguire, Shaw; Haidara, Fred; Sancho, Fernandes; Haaland, Ronaldo.
