Caballero extends his stay in Southampton

Southampton appear ready to extend the contract of former Argentina international Willy Caballero.
The former Manchester City and Chelsea keeper signed a short-term deal at St Mary’s until January 5 earlier this month after the Saints suffered a goalkeeper crisis.
Caballero had a debut to be forgotten with a 3-0 defeat at Arsenal but impressed in the 2-2 draw at Crystal Palace last time around and could now stay at Southampton for the remainder of the campaign.
Ralph Hasenhuttl revealed: “Yes there is definitely a chance because in this moment and in this situation you never know how quickly with Covid you are losing a few players.
“It would make sense, sure and that’s what we have in mind to extend his contract as well. I’m sure he can help us in the longer term.
“He has shown on the pitch that he can help us. He played two games, against Palace, you could see him in every game, he was improving, in every game he had more confidence in himself. This is what you need when you walk in.
Injuries to Alex McCarthy and Fraser Forster have seen Southampton turn to Caballero, but former England goalkeeper Forster has resumed training, which will leave Hasenhuttl with a decision to be made ahead of Sunday’s trip to West Ham .
